ITS Carolinas receives the ITS America State Chapter’s Council Special Recognition Award
During the 2019 ITS America Annual Meeting, June 4-7, in Washington D.C., ITS Carolinas was presented with the ITS America State Chapter’s Council Special Recognition Award.
ITS Carolinas received this recognition after its evaluation in three categories: Strong and Engaging Chapter Governance; Significant Impact via Networking, Outreach, and Advocacy; and Effective Organization and Professional Development. With high scores in every category, ITSC’s promotion of public service distinguished the chapter from the other nominations. Highlights of the chapter’s outreach include:
- During Hurricane Florence, ITSC used all its engagement tools to reach volunteers to help staff the phones. Ninety percent of the non-DOT volunteers who staffed phones during the hurricane represented ITSC member organizations.
- Support of the academic community as the chapter established a scholarship fund in 2018 for university students studying ITS.
- Actively partnering with other organizations whose missions overlap with their own, such as the NC Governor’s Highway Safety Program (GHSP), which promotes traffic safety across the state.
- All proceeds of hosted Lunch and Learns go to the ITS Carolinas Scholarship Fund.
- The Technical Agenda Committee led an outreach effort to expand participation from the first responders’ community, focused on optimizing incident management and operations.
The chapter was also recognized for the development of the ITS Carolinas promotional video, that not only encourages participation in the annual meeting, but discusses the future of technology in the ITS industry.
ITS Carolinas is honored to be recognized for its efforts in the ITS community in addition to its strong chapter governance, organization and professional development initiatives. The chapter continues to promote the growth of ITS in the Carolinas and invites you to stay tuned for more information about the ITS Carolinas Annual Meeting the first quarter of 2020!
