The ITS Carolinas Scholarship Committee reviewed applications from 11 undergraduate and graduate students. The committee awarded Jiayun Shen of Clemson University a scholarship of $ 1,000. Jiayun completed his master’s degree in Civil Engineering this past May with plans to continue his education toward a doctoral degree. Jiayun expressed an interest in ITS and how it can benefit society through safety enhancements in Transportation. His view of including everyone and all types of transportation to benefit all roadway users showed an understanding of the positive potentials for ITS. Public safety is the top priority of every engineer and Jiayun Shen’s vision of improving safety for all transportation users and transportation modes through the potential for improving disaster evacuation logistics, emergency services, and everyday commutes showed vision for the future of ITS.
